RE: [RC] Do I HAVE to grind the flax seed? - Susan E. Garlinghouse, DVMGrinding it fresh is the gold standard, and you'll get the most bang for your buck that way. But, life can get crowded in the fast lane, so do what you can. You'll still get some good benefits from feeding it whole, just not as much. It's certainly not like an all-or-nothing issue. And, you'll have the fattest, shiniest birdies in the neighborhood, who will happily pick apart and scatter your horse poop for you. Life is all about give and take. :-) Susan Garlinghouse, DVM -----Original Message----- From: ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Nina Vasiliev Sent: Monday, October 15, 2007 10:06 PM To: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [RC] Do I HAVE to grind the flax seed? Hello all, For years, I have been feeding whole flax seed to my horses in their soaked beet pulp. This weekend I was told that I need to crack the shell of the seed by grinding it for it to be any good for the horses. Is that right?
