Re: [RC] [RC] CTR, end - Ranelle Rubin

I agree Truman..not sure what the fuss is all about..! Who cares what distance, or how many rules you want to abide by, (as long as you abide by the ones you signed up for)..???

I have never done anything but endurance..in fact, only twice have I even done an LD..once on my own horse, and once on a client's. We are blessed to have such great access to so many miles of trails and so many people to ride with that I don't feel the need.

This does not make me better, or inferior to anyone else..period. I take good care of my horse, and ride safely, period. That is all that does matter.

Amen. I have to wonder why it makes some endurance riders feel good to bad mouth CTR or some CTR riders feel good to bad mouth endurance riders. I do both. I've always done both. Not a big deal. I don't think either has the edge on how they treat horses or for starting new horses. When I'm on the trail I'm on my horse and that is all that matters. I pretty much ride the same - which means in a CTR I have to walk a lot the last 10 miles ;-) , but my idiot Ayyyyyyyrab doesn't know the difference and won't listen the first 15. Thank goodness the SEDRA window is 3:45 elapsed time for a 25.

SEDRA instituted "riding for miles only" a few years ago. That was the best thing they have ever done. When you are finished and the 10 minutes check is done to make sure you horse is okay - you are done and you can go eat ice cream or drink beer or do both.

Riding is what you make it. Distance riding is what you make it. Miles are miles whether comp or end or LD. I like endurance better than comp because I don't have to be so quiet. BUT, I had fun on comp rides too. I just played the game however it had to be played. I sponsered juniors on all rides, we had fun on all rides. I smiled and giggled on all rides, I varoomed and whooped and hollered on all rides. I had trotting races on all rides. All my horses started first in comp. I usually did about 3 years of comp before I jumped over to endurance. Why? I guess I was just too competitive and comp kept me sane and made me pace my horse. Oh yeah, I also had an arab appy cross who did great at both sports. I rode with Jan Kennedy and Cindy King. We always had a blast even when we were being serious at a vet check if it was comp. We all knew how to play the game and we did what we had to do to get through the ride. We all rode both sports and enjoyed both. So get out and ride your horse/mule, do whatever distance you want to do, ride whatever breed you want to ride, ride comp or end or LD and remember that finishing with a sound horse is something to be proud of, and awards are icing on the cake. Someone in camp will have a freezer and will keep ice cream for you. Jeanie
