When I rode drag for a NATRC ride they all rode a normal pace till they were almost to the top of the hill, then just stopped and stood around for the longest talking till all the horses had ample time to get over the long hard climb, then slowly walked on up to the "surprise" P&R stop. No water available but everybody had a little cardboard fan. Definitely different. Many of the NE region's best 100 milers do ECTRA. It seems to cross over best into endurance from what I've gathered but it's not available down here. I couldn't stand to split up my mileage between two governing bodies anyway.
