Re: [RC] Fw: appaloosa endurance horses-CK - Linda Marins----- Original Message ----- From: "Laney Humphrey" <laneyhh@xxxxxxxxxxx> Among dogs, "designer dogs" now command prices comparable to purebreds because supposedly one can combine characteristics to create the "perfect" dog... Yes, it's called "breeding." ;-) You remind me of the greyhound x border collie dog that won the national speed obstacles championship one year. He was exactly what one would hope for from such a cross (and often don't get): agile and fast as a...greyhound. My favorite was a Morgan stud farm that proudly termed its horses "Clean-Blooded." *Clean*-blooded? I've always wondered whether it was a just a coincidence that the stud farm was located in Hillsboro, West Virginia. Musing on breeding endurance horses, assuming that all data up to the present points to the Arabian as the superior speed enduring breed at the distance of 100 miles, what is it that one would like to breed *out* of Arabians? The only thing that comes to mind is the exaggerated flight response.
