Re: [RC] [RC] Uzes - Young Horses Finals - Maryanne GabbaniI know that the major horse-producing industry in Egypt would be the private studs who breed Egyptian Arabians for racing and halter shows. When I moved here there were about 20 of them and the last time I saw a count it was up around 300 last year. Every so often someone's accountant points out that the money going out is vastly more than the money coming in and another shipment of purebred Arabs ends up at the pyramids stables. They don't eat them, they just rent them out for lots of money to jerks who want to be seen riding a flashy horse as they gallop around and sometimes ride them to death. Ours end up in bone piles or pulling carts. This is hardly an end to be desired but that's sure the way it is. You might argue that any horses that could be sold to the Gulf would be spared a life of pain, but somehow I kind of doubt that. Nature/supply and demand/whatever you want to call it...it isn't very kind.Maryanne On 10/8/07, Steph Teeter <stephteeter@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Interesting question.
