That has got to be one of the "wrongest" statements I have ever heard.  I rode my old Quarter/Morgan cross on his first 50 when he was 16.  I bought him from a rental stable.  My friend finished Tevis on a TWH.  The horse that has completed the most Tevis rides ever (13) is a registered quarter horse.  Gaited horses, Quarter horses, Thoroughbreds, mules and various others do endurance just fine and withing the time limits.  When the time limit was thought up, there were not all that many arabs as opposed to the ranch horses I don't think.  Maybe those that agree with the statement should choose a different sport.  I have ridden many different horses and so far (after 33 years) have never been overtime.  Close a couple of times but always within time................mb
