Re: [RC] cold shoulder, different ride times? - Barbara McCraryLet's not forget the fascinating bit of physiology that the Arab has compared to, say, the Quarter Horse. The Arab has slow-twitch muscle that allows him to do repetitive action for long periods of time. The Quarter Horse has fast-twitch muscle that allows him to do explosive action for short periods of time. The TB is a combination of both. And when we're done with all this comparison stuff, it depends a lot on the horse's mentality and whether he really likes the job he's doing. One of our very best horses was a 16 hand, 1100# Morgan-Percheron cross, who didn't know he had any limitations designated by his breeding. He loved the sport, and consequently he did very well. As for why Arabians are so popular in the sport, here's my take (please note tongue in cheek!): arabians that couldn't make it in the show ring were really cheap back when the sport was starting. > Laney =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
