Re: [RC] Any Other Runners Out Here? - Barbara McCrary
I'm sure they can be balanced, as it is done quite a
lot. Ride & Tie runners definitely both run and ride, and some of the
Tevis winners and top ten do quite a lot of running with their horses.
Since I'm not a runner, I have no advice, but I do know the two sports can be
balanced.
I have been a fitness runner for a number of
years, but am starting to compete in more foot races (i.e., my feet--not the
horse's.)
Won my second race (ever) last week... a 5-k...
with a time of 16:20. Trying to break into the low 15s before all is
said and done, though I'm not a 20-something anymore.
I'm having a problem with leg fatigue caused by
training for and competing in endurance horseback races. I tend to be
tight and sore for about 2 weeks after a horseback race, which really puts the
stoppers on running to the best of my ability. Hoping someone else here
will have the same experience and will be able to recommend a stretching
routine, or massage, etc. that helps restore their own running ability in the
days following a horseback race. Can the two sports be successfully
balanced? :-)
