Sometimes you have to shop around for a lip balm that will stay in the cap. 
I have a cap that will not hold Chapstick brand, as its case it just a tiny 
bit too small to stay in.  It will hold Neutrogena lip balm, which is much 
more expensive.  I bought several balm/lanyard units at Holiday Expeditions' 
supply shop when I went on my most recent river rafting trip last June. 
Their lip balm tastes like bananas, which I could do without (I prefer 
mint), but I'm getting used to it for the sake of the convenience of having 
a balm that actually stays in the cap.
