the freak accident . . . In her case, the helmet actually created the spinning of her brain on her spinal cord.
Beccy,
This was one incident out of how many horse incidents in the world (%?) on a daily basis?
Besides the two incidents in the last two years where I was hit from above and the helmet protected my head, twice in the past 4 years (not often enough to get rid of the horse), I was in the UP position of posting when the horse spooked and spun out from under me and I landed flat on my back and the helmet smacked smacked the ground. I just found myself wondering if I had my cowboy hat on whether it would have helped me think quicker and flip over so that I could tuck and roll, or if it would have helped me see under the bushes so that I would have known the quail were going to fly into our face.
I don't really care what other people wear or don't wear, but I sure wonder how they are avoiding these incidents

Then there is the freak accident that my brother's friend had that left her almost in a persistent, vegetative state. In her case, the helmet actually created the spinning of her brain on her spinal cord. She was being led on a horse who tripped. She had the helmet on, securely, and came off, hitting the side of her head, causing massive trauma. In her case, the helmet did not save her but hurt her in the end. Freak accident, yes. Thankfully, my life is in the hands of the Lord. I will do what is resonable but I can't be fearful of everything, otherwise, why live? Beccy

I still cannot figure out how riders in baseball caps have so much better eyesight! In the past two years, I have trashed two helmets from being hit by large tree limbs overhead while riding unfamiliar trails in the springtime. I ducked for leafy branches coming at me, but wasn't able to see the bigger branch hiding behind them when I sat up! Both times, I was knocked backward and saw stars, luckily, stayed on the horse because my helmet kept me from being knocked out cold. How do all the bare-headed riders miss these tree limbs?

You only need to see someone hit their head once while coming off a horse to never want to ride without a helmet ! I saw a lady with a helmet go over on her kid's horse. The helmet saved her life, period.
