Re: [RC] [RC] riding in the ice? - RavenNo, it's definitely not safe to ride on ice. Especially if it's under the snow, the horse can't see the ice. Most horses instinctively know to avoid ice, but if they don't see it under the snow, they won't necessarily know it's there.
I have an Icelandic Pony and one of the crazy things that many Icelandic owners in Iceland and the USA like to do is race around on a frozen lake or hockey rink while riding their Icelandic ponies. Sure...they put studded shoes on the front feet, which IMO...torque on the legs. While the rear non stud or barefoot hooves slip and slide on the ice. Now...maybe it's just me, but I'll never understand the need to tolt or pace race your horse on ice.
