[RC] Making sure horses drink enough in winter - Kristi SchaafWhat gets my three boys to drink gallons and gallons of water in the winter (on top of their regular drinking from the water trough) is that I have a hubby willing to carry 15 gallons of warm/hot water mixed with about a 1/2 cup of organic black strap molasses from the house to the paddock every evening (only about 50 feet so he's a great guy for doing it, but not a super-hero..he he he). There's not enough molasses in it to give the boys a sugar high or anything, but it does apparently have a strong smell attractive enough that they'll fight over the tub of warm molasses water like wolves over a fresh deer. I have to play referee to make sure that all three do get their share. The nights that hubby is reffing basketball and there's no warm water to be had, I get very dirty looks from the horses (a bad back prevents me from lugging 5 gallon buckets out there myself). Kristi Life's a journey, so enjoy the ride (and try not to fall off) ____________________________________________________________________________________ Never miss an email again! Yahoo!
