[RC] RM Comments/Youth Leader - cynthia hambergHi Folks: It is a couple of months since our last Easy Come Easy Go/Turkey Trot ride... Over the 3 years that we've put the ride on, I have received a lot of positive feedback. Thank you!!! However, one negative comment directed towards me right after the ride meeting really stands out--even today. One lady took a group of juniors out, which we REALLY catered to...I had waited to announce their awards separately because they had done the ride loops backwards (i.e., starting at the vet check), and we had permitted a separate start time to accommodate their needs... Therefore, from the outset it had been made clear that they would be up for 'completions' only, and couldn't compete for "best condition." At least I thought it had been made clear! --After the awards, the adult rider/leader came up to me and very loudly said, "YOU don't understand disadvantaged children!!!" ...Many of my other riders heard her rude comments...And, needless to say, not only was I embarrassed for both myself and the woman, I work with severely emotionally disturbed, foster care youth as my day job! --When I got back to the school I teach at on Monday, I told my principal what this 'youth leader' had said to me during my "free time/volunteer work." He totally laughed with me and said, "Does she know what you do for a living?" Remember, Ride Managers are volunteers first. Please don't disrespect us, especially in public (i.e., this goes for all active & retired RMs). It isn't easy to put a ride on...
