Wow! I feel like an idiot! I haven't been on RideCamp all week, and just finished reading through all the posts since then. You're right, Ed, that post was inflamitory language! But I really never meant to send the post! I just finished a couple of beers then read something online about Michael Vick and dogfighting and another on cockfighting, and then saw a link about a van that was busted in a city in (Korea?) where it is illegal to eat dog, but it is still done on the sly that had a cage full of about 50 live dogs with their mouths taped shut all packed on top of each other like they were already dead (of which, a couple on the bottom were), and it was just the same kind of treatment the slaughter-bound horses get. Then I opened the thread about the "Suicide Races." I am sorry, but I was feeling devilish and typing those words in order to vent, but never even finished the last sentance/paragraph and decided to delete it. Unfortunately, I leaned on some button and the thing sent itself.
Anyway, I know that the pro-slaughter people are just horse owners with a legitimate need, not Barbarians. And I too have sent a horse to slaughter (the rearing horse from 30 years ago). However, I wouldn't do it again. And I do feel like it is naive to think that the current urbanization of America will make room for slaughterhouses to be built anywhere within a 100 miles of their neighborhoods. Therefore, the batching and inhumane trucking (that inspired the current legislation) would continue to be an unavoidable reality. To think that things can go back to the way they used to be is naive. It is unfortunate that the legislation was so short-sighted and there were no provisions for the results, but why can't we come up with new ideas and move forward?!
Terry,
who as you can see, can be a Barbarian Idiot too
"...Barbarian Idiots (like the pro-horse-slaughter people) There ...."
This type of inflamatory language has no place on a list like Ridecamp.
It is counterproductive and just plain wrong. I have taken a horse to slaughter and I am neither a barbarian or an idiot.
If you wish to make a reasoned argument as to why your opinions are proper and should be adopted by others, that is laudable. If your only option is inflamatory name calling, you are saying more about yourself than you are of those whom you criticize.
