Re: [RC] Disney horse movies - Linda Marins

How about Casey's Shadow?
That wasn't Disney.  But I agree it is one of the three
best horse movies ever made (gets beat by The Black
Stallion and National Velvet, imho).  Directed by Martin Ritt
("Norma Rae," etc.).  Ritt was into QH racing.

I *always* recommend Casey's Shadow to anyone (particularly
land management/trail policy types) who has ideas that horse
people are nothing but a bunch of rich snobs.  There *ARE* po'
horse folk out there, and this movie is a great advertisement for us.
I think *most* of the horse folk in Tennessee are poor!

And while we're mentioning old Wonderful World of Disney
1hr horse movies, there is "Justin Morgan Had a Horse."
(And I always remember the one about the little boy pearl
diver on a dhow in the Persian Gulf.)

I agree with Beth Leggieri:  half the problems we have with
land managers and other trail users are simply because these
people have grown up without any contact at all with large
farm animals.  (You should have seen the neighbor's reaction
when invited to toboggan down a terrific hill that was
incidentally decorated with a few piles of cow pooh.)  There
is so little exposure on TV anymore.  I had Fury and
My Friend Flicka and Roy Rogers and Trigger and all of
these wonderful Disney shorts.  I can't think of anything
comparable today.  My niece has to make do with what's
on Animal Planet (rerun ad nauseum).

Even the Disney channel doesn't show them anymore.
