Re: [RC] Mule Owners, Jack Owners - Jody Rogers-ButtramOk, I am NOT a mule expert...but I did just what you are talking about. I ended up buying the jack because he was so nice. No, he is in Alabama, or else you could maybe breed to him. When looking of a jack, I was told this from some mule friends that raised show mules. Look at them from the knees/hocks down. ALL jacks are ugly. But, find one with good, straight legs, nice bone, and a good disposition would be a plus. Jackson, our jack (yeah I know, really original name there) has great legs. The weaning mule I have (out of an Arab mare) has great legs too. Heck, I should have endurance horses with such nice legs. But, you can't judge them by their bodies....go for the legs. Mules are NOT like horses. I am learning this the painful way. UPDATE on the demonic mule: April is 6 months now, fully weaned (although mom is down the road still) She had attached herself to her big sister. Wherever Squirrel goes, April is right there. She has had more lessons, and is getting those little feet trimmed again this weekend. I dread that. PS. How do you get a mule eat????? She doesn't like to eat grain. I have her food right there next to the sister that she likes so well. Sometimes she eats....sometimes she doesn't.
