Re: [RC] [RC] Stethoscopes - Dawn Carrie

As far as buying a "good" vs "cheap" stethoscope - maybe I just got a bad one.  I bought a cheap $7 steth, and found that I had a hard time hearing HR on horses unless they were fairly loud.  I bought a better (ok, subscribing to the notion that more money = better <TIC>) stethoscope...I think it was $25 for a Sprauge brand, and now I can hear much better.  I wasn't suggesting that one spend $100 or something for a hospital quality steth...but the cheap one I got didn't work that well for me.  YMMV.

I have owned and been using a cheapie stethscope for years.  I have also
used occassionally some other people's "good quality" stethoscopes.

I haven't found there to be that much difference in their performance
other than the good quality ones seem to be better constructed (so less
likely to break??).

But I have had my cheapie for well over a decade and it hasn't broken
yet (despite having been stuck in fanny packs, vet check bags, cantle
bags, etc.).  Can somebody tell me why I would want to spend more than
the $5 that I did?
