Re: [RC] [RC] starting horses late - Jody Rogers-ButtramI agree. I have raised most of my own endurance horses for about 30 years now. But, recently I have had a "soft" spot for rescues. I have been told that I can't compare other horses to Cash Pony "...'cause he just ain't normal." He is exceptionally gifted as an endurance horse. He was a major case of neglect for his entire 7 years when I bought him. No worming, no shots, no hoof care...I doubt they had ever been picked up, and for sure NO FOOD. On an acrea dirt lot with 4 others...some more had been there and died. He was halter broke, or else he sure learned fast. He went against everything a person is taught about purchasing an endurance prospect. He should have major metabolic, gut issues when under stress. Maybe it hasn't shown up, because I have seen him stressed yet. He just doesn't get tired. If he is handicapped
because of his upbringing, then it is a good thing he is...because he would be wearing a cape with a big "S" on it. :)) Even the legging up went faster on him. He was a mature, although starved horse. He did have good legs and bone. He did his first 50 after only 4 months of breaking/conditioning, and he first 100 after only 5 and half months. He DID carry a lightweight rider, so I am sure that helped him. Please don't take this my standard....Because it isn't. It is normal for Cash...but not any other horse that I have ever owned. Cash is very special. Jody Karen Sullivan <greymare56@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:
