Re: [RC] Fun vs Competition - Joe LongLinda Marins wrote:I'm looking over Merri's photos of the finish of the European Championships. From what I can see, it looks like everybody is having an absolute blast! I always have a wonderful time when I'm racing for first place. I enjoy it a lot more than I do the rides where I'm bringing a horse along to get him fit to race, and I have to ride a slower pace. As some others have said, even when I'm riding a mid-pack or slower pace I'm still "racing" something. If not another rider, than some other target. It's in my blood. When I ran the Pikes Peak Marathon last year on foot, even though I had zero chance of winning my age division, I still tried to beat those runners closest to me on the course (whatever their division). I play poker for fun, but the most fun is in winning, so I play to win. This summer I had the opportunity to play in a series of tournaments against a field that included some of the top professional tournament players, and I cashed in two of them ... how sweet it is!
