Re: [RC] Just out of Curiousity (was: Race, etc.) - Beth WalkerGood question. I think it depends on what kind of recognition would replace it (or not). For example, what would happen to the BC award? Lots of folks are justifiably proud of having their horse awarded a BC. If you take the "race" out, then there could not be a "top 10". These are recognitions that mean a lot to many folks, I think.Right now, I'm trying for middle-of-the-pack (and a calm horse...yeah, right). Even so, I am interested in where I finish, and how the vets scored my horse. I also like the fact that Terry Woolley-Howe (who puts on the majority of the local-area rides) gives an award to the horse with the best vet scores, regardless of finish position. It gives everyone a shot at that award. I'm not sure that you could completely take "race" out of the AERC rides. There will always be people that want to come in first, and who will ride fast to do that. If you put in minimum time requirements to "slow them down", as opposed to the current maximum time requirements, then you are stepping on NATRC turf.
