Sorry guys, it has come to my attention that I made a thoughtless statement.
Apparently I misunderstood how things work when the average ride is backed
by the average club.  

Last year at the HTH, a rider's hubby mentioned at the pre-ride meeting that
it would be a good thing for Maine to have a club to serve in that role.  I
know I've talked to a LOT of people who have never managed a ride and who
think ALL ride managers are backed in some way by an organization that
assumes the financial risk.

But someone just pointed out via private email to me that even with club
backing it would still be "the ride manager costing the club money"!  

So, if you please, just forget I mentioned clubs.  Rides losing money is a
bad thing all around.
