Re: [RC] Back to Back Rides - Barbara McCraryOver-conditioning is riding 18 miles per day at endurance pace. Our eldest daughter, who was the first of the family to start endurance riding back in 1970, did this preparing for her first ride. Her horse was DQ'd at the first VC, 12 miles from the start. However, there was no water at that VC, so that may have made a huge difference. Believe it or not, there WERE dry VCs back then.My husband did the best on his horse when he rode 18 miles (5 miles to work, put the horse up for the day, then 13 miles on a longer route home) two times a week, then a 30 mile ride on the weekend. I'm sure one can ride two times a week, about 10 miles each time, then 15-25 miles on the weekend and still have a horse in good shape. Some people ride every day, about 5-7 miles, and I think that would keep a horse in good shape without overdoing it.
