Looks like the Hot Toddy Hustle is going to happen!? We?re scheduled to have
a very small crowd but I think I can make it work as long as everyone knows
what to expect? no frills, just a marked trail and two great vets (Dr. Art
King and Dr. Ron Miles).? 
?
WEATHER
Right now it looks like Friday ? Sunday will be sunny, with high temps
ranging from low 70s to high 50s, with the coolest day on Sunday.? We?ll see
how accurate that turns out to be!
?
TRAIL
I?ve made some trail changes from last year to get you off the pavement
more.? Moving Zephyr home has helped; I?ve been able to more readily explore
the trails at the Bucksport end.
?
WATER ON TRAIL
There is very little natural water on the trail these days.? I will have
flyby locations marked on the map for you, but I know there will be riders
without crews.? Anyone who can bring spare water troughs / buckets will be
appreciated, and anyone who can use their crew?s water tank to fill those
tubs/buckets out along various parts of the trail will receive a big sloppy
kiss from me.? (Not really, but I think everyone would appreciate the
water.)? Please let me know if you have extra tubs/buckets and/or a tank and
would be willing to help out with that.

RIDERS
Saturday we have 8 in the 30 and 8-10 in the 60.? Sunday we have 2 in the 30
and 2 in the 60? maybe 3 if I ride, which I?d like to do.? (Why don?t I
cancel Sunday, you ask?? Because some of the riders coming Sunday are also
coming Saturday, and might withdraw from both if I cancel one.)

CAN YOU HELP A FELLOW RIDER!?!
Priscilla Worth is driving up from VA to visit her friends, who are riding
the 30 on Saturday.? Priscilla was going to bring her horse so that she
could ride too, but on Thursday night when she left, I was still on the
fence about whether to cancel.? So right now she?s planning to crew for her
friends? but she?d really like to ride if anyone has a spare horse they
would like some miles on!!? Here?s what she has to say about herself: ??Me?
- 140#, 53 yrs old,? consider myself a good rider - but not so good that I
don't embarrass myself occasionally.? Have had my Arab for 5 yrs, prior to
that, hadn't ridden much in 30+ years. However, confident, not hard on a
horse, do bounce once in a while (:? , pretty decent hands, and unless a
horse either truly bucks, rears or spins unexpectedly - not likely to come
off. My horse dumped my earlier this year w/a 90 degree turn from a relaxed
trot w/no notice.? LDs this year - as training and learning the ropes rides:
Foxcatcher, Michaux (Loved that one). Genesee (BEST LD around!), and darn -
some other ECTRA ride in PA. Had a disaster at each one - none that were
related to horse fitness or rider ability - all were organizational or well
- ignorance! - my friend and I were new and we did all of our learning on
the 4 rides this year: tack problems (hers - she tried to go w/a bitless
bridle - and didn't bring anything else - it did not work!) , truck (hers)
broke down twice, timing problems (not understanding the in/out time vs the
P/R time), horse bonding (not realized) which created problems getting thru
vet check unless they were together!, and the fact that if something
impacted one of the us, the other didn't continue. (I've learned my lesson
on that! My motto is no longer "one for all and all for one" - at some
point, it has to be "ride your own race".)? So, if anyone has a fairly
uncomplicated horse for loan for the ride - I'll take it. But not if they
are going to be worried the whole time, wishing they hadn't!
?
If you have anything you can bring along to loan me that might help? TOM,
your clocks perhaps?? I promise to make sure you get them back before you
go!... please let me know.? (SPARE FRIENDS WHO ARE WILLING TO VOLUNTEER
WOULD BE WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!)
