[RC] TALLADEGA 100--- Trail Description - Jody Rogers-ButtramAnyone interested in this ride, here is some valuable info: Where and When: Friday October 5th, Heflin, Alabama, Talladega National Forest How many loops? 6 loop 100 Vet Checks: 1 away VC General Info: Water for horses on trail and provided by Ride management on trail and at VC's. 19 miles of road = 11 miles loop 2 + 8 miles loop 3 Roads are
gravel - fine to medium size stones, 2 cars widths wide with terrain that is rolling with long slow deceptive inclines. We ride tested these roads last year and found that they were more challenging for the horses than they appeared because the terrain disguises the difficulty of the elevation changes. Shoes - Ride management recommends shoes with pads, woods trails are rocky and roads are gravel. Easy boots over shoes for roads would save wear on shoes and nail heads. Loop Descriptions: Loop 1 - 20 miles of woods trail with a trot by/pulse and go half way at nice open creek. No crewing at trot by, ride management will carry stuff out for riders. First 10 miles, rolling and moderate, second 10 miles, steep winding climbs and descents, very
challenging. Vet check 1 in camp Loop 2 - 18 miles, 7 miles woods trail, rolling and moderate, 11 miles roads as described above. Vet check 2 is away. VC set up beginning Friday AM only. Ride management will carry out for riders without crews. Loop 3 - 19 miles, 8 miles roads as described above, 11 miles woods trails, rolling and moderate. Vet check 3 is in camp Loop 4 - 19 miles woods trails, rolling and
moderate. Glow sticks. Vet check 4 in camp Loop 5 - 16 miles woods trails, rolling and moderate. Glow sticks. Vet check 5 in camp Loop 6 - 8 miles woods trails, rolling and moderate. Glow sticks. Loops 5 and 6 are shorter parts of loop 4 so horses will have seen these trails before. Spotters will be located at critical intersections.
