Glad I would rather face a bull than a cow with a newborn calf any day! Those mama cows can be very aggressive in their efforts to protect their babies. (Been there, done that, nearly was attacked.) I'm no where near the Wild West, but we also encountered loose horses several times as a child. I'll never forget the time my mom (not a horse person) made a loop of her arms and caught a 2 year old colt that was running towards Rt 10 On a ride & tie race in 1983, one of our horses broke loose from his tie and ran full bore down the trail. Another competitor tackled him, grabbed him around the neck and hauled him to a stop. It was suspected that a bear in the forest frightened the horse into breaking loose from his tie. Somehwere in that forest lies a beautiful copper-mouth snaffle bit.....Sigh. The horse was wearing only a headstall and halter when captured. Rope gone, snaffle gone.
