RE: [SPAM] [RC] BC judging - GMM - heidiGIVE ME MORE! This is something that I have been asking officials at many big rides for about 5 years. When ride management/vets have all top ten horses show at the same time, especially at major events, such as Tevis, Old Dominion, NC Championship or FEI events, why can't they share more information with observers, other than just the trot outs? It would be MUCH more educational and interesting if they would share with us, at the time, some of their basic findings that are non judgmental, such as pulse, respiration and cardiac recovery. If they are giving a hydration or gut sounds of A, B or C then simply tell us. This does not mean that we have to second guess them on the finding, but these parameters would sure help me is appraising the trot out, demeanor, finishing time and "look" of the horse. What other parameters do they record that could be shared with us at the time that would be educational? I would hope that AERC and others would join me in lobbying the vets and management to make the BC judging more educational and interesting. Steve, for the very reasons you state here, I HATE the "new" BC forms that only give you a little strip of paper for each horse. I use a worksheet with a score breakdown for ALL of the parameters that I look at, and always added those numbers and comments to EACH sheet, back when we had a whole sheet for each horse. I strongly feel that the "paper-saving" move by the office on the BC forms was a huge step back for both rider education and for transparency of how BC is judged.
