[RC] For Barbara--Just for fun - Bruce WearyWe found Navajo Lady roaming aimlessly on the Navajo reservation without food or water in sight as we were driving home from an endurance ride. My daughter insisted we stop and feed her. We found the owners and bought her and brought her home. The vet estimated she was about 12, so she's about 15 by now. I laugh when I remember that the vet wanted to draw two vials of blood, but after he took the first one, and he pondered her extreme emaciation, he said, " I don't think she has another one in her." :> She ate constantly and broke chunks off the salt block and ate them like candy. To this day, she won't let another horse near her feed, and likely never will. She is dog gentle with people, however. She enjoys good health, and much pampering. Her new owner does not ride her, as she feels she has earned a life of leisure. I guess I have to agree. She still lives down the road from us, and we keep a snip of her tail for good luck.
