Re: [RC] [RC] Horse with attitude...Emergency Dismount - Barbara McCrary
If I had been trained to do an emergency dismount 20
years ago, I may not have had a horse fall on me, break 4 ribs and knock out a
front tooth. I was never trained to do an emergency dismount and my
instinct was to get my weight far forward over the horse's shoulders, but it
didn't help the situation and I had a nasty accident. I spent 5 days in a
hospital over that one.
I believe firmly that a person needs to learn how to do
an emergency dismount safely and when young. I'm too old to learn it
now.

Okay when Jessica wrote about her "emergency-dismount, and aim-to-roll."
I just had to laugh! I will do "emergency-dismounts" too when I need to
get off before the situation gets worse...like bucking up a hill!
My dressage instructor refuses to teach the emergency
dismount. She says too many people do it when they should have stayed
with the horse and rode it out. They get to the point that if the horse
even burps they do an emergency dismount. Don't laugh, I've heard a
horse burp! jeri
