Re: [RC] Cruppers - rides2far@xxxxxxxxI adjust the crupper so that when the saddle is sitting right where I wantit to, the crupper is taut. If you don't do that, the >>>saddle will simplyslip forward until it is. Then it's not going to be where you want it. I am a tall, heavy weight rider and use a western type saddle. I have had notrouble with using a crupper. Seems to me that unless your horse is built very downhill there's no reason the saddle should be sliding forward when on the flat. My personal experience is that a crupper that's tight on the flat rubs since it is shifting with every stride. My crupper does *seem* to be snug when I saddle up simply because my horse tucks his butt a little when I'm putting it on but I sometimes have to take that up once I'm on the trail just to keep it from being rediculously loose once he relaxes. If the crupper is snug on the flat, seems like it would have to pull the saddle back to tuck his butt to go down a hill. He'd have to pull the saddle farther back (or attempt to)...I would think that would discourage him from getting his rump up under him. My new horse 7 has a HUGE frog belly...probably from having been fed straw instead of hay for the last few months. It flairs out so fast that the front billet fits one hole tighter than the back one. I am worried that his saddle will work forward simply because the girth will be on such a round belly. I may have different ideas on crupper adjustment after dealing with that.
