Re: [RC] [RC] Cruppers? - heidi larsonour neoprene one is not moulded, it has a rope or something inside and is very soft and pliable, plus attaches with beta, however, my gelding has a low set tail so had to cover the beta part in sheepskin so he wouldn't get rubbed on the top of his croup. The neoprene part is super soft. I've seen Gail's though and they are nice but I have never really needed to try anything different. heidi --- Karen Sullivan <greymare56@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: I have tried a few cruppers and now the only ones I will use are the ones made by Gail Hought of Hought endurance tack...all the moulded neoprene-type ones just see too hard, or are shaped too narrow for the width of the tail. Gail makes a very comfortable crupper which is three-fold soft leather over biothane, so it takes on the shape of the tail, with leather against the skin.... I even sent her a zilco crupper and had her replace the tail part with her leather three fold.... I have all my horses in a crupper; consider it a piece of safety equipment....as we do a lot of hills. I start them with the crupper by making sure I can slide my hand under their tail without them freaking out; some nice scratching....then I saddle and put them in stall with goodies in a feeder....slip crupper under tail but unfastened.....a couple of times to get them used to whole idea..then loosely buckled while they are saddled and eating.....to leaving it on while ponied, etc. I have it a bit snug, as when they are moving usually their tails are lifted a bit.... Seems to be working well for all of them... Two horses have been trained tocruppersthat way. They seem to not mind if you do the training incrementally. heidi --- "Debbie K." <dakota.charm@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:Hello, Can you guys give me tips on using crupperswithan endurance saddle, my saddle is slipping on downhills, so Ithink Ineed to get a crupper, I have used them years ago for driving andwitha bitting rig, So I think I remember how to introduce one forthefirst time, but that is about it, how tight do I have it, howmuchweight can a rider be when using a Crupper?
