Re: [RC] What About dog Slaughter? - Truman Prevatt

Most decisions made by a society are based on the cultural biases of
that society. Human history has not been known for making decisions
based on logic. Cultural ethical values change over time. Therein lies
the problem with slaughter of horses, dogs and cats for food consumption
in the US. If we as a society through a democratic process decide that
is unacceptable - then that decision and its ramifications will have to
be addressed.

Right, wrong or indifferent I believe that our society has come or is
coming to the decision that such slaughter is not within our cultural
ethical values. Now given that we must work to see that the "solution"
is not worse than the original problem.

We are already slaughtering thousands of dogs that nobody wants; the difference is that some cultures make use of the carcasses but we just throw them away. If hungry people can make use of them and if the handling and killing is humane, I wouldn't have a problem with it. I couldn't eat dog meat; but that's a cultural thing, not based on logic.
