Re: [RC] [RC] Shock Wave Therapy for Cyrus - Susan E. Garlinghouse, DVM
I haven’t had a lot of experience with it personally, but
there was a unit at the vet teaching hospital for a year or so that the equine
surgeons were playing around with on chronic lameness issues. When all
was said and done, they (about four or five different boarded surgeons) weren’t
very impressed with results, even in horses that received pretty aggressive
treatment with it. They gave the unit back to the manufacturers.
Just passing on their viewpoint.

Do any of you have experience with shock wave therapy? It
would be used for an old injury, to "remodel" Cyrus' fetlock. He is
on 2 grams bute daily, most days, and the vet thinks this therapy might make
him serviceably sound without pain meds.
