Re: [RC] [RC] Parelli (and other clinicians) - Mary Ann SpencerFor the children, helmets should be there. I was possibly the first in TX, or one of the first to be caught wearing a helmet while riding, AND that includes the first few yrs of endurance. I was harrassed about it too. It wa pointed out to me by my then husband that the head can't be put back together very well so my first hard hat was his rock climbing hat. There were not any such as we have today. Those old black velvet hats were way too hot. My 2nd helmet was a bicycle helmet as it had ventilation and protection. I never broke a helmut until 5 yrs ago. Now have unfortunately broken a total of 2. That was before I was introduced to Parelli. Both those horses needed that kind of training. Horses have issues and when they have been exposed to stupid people they have MORE issues. There are risk takers everywhere. That includes all aspects of ones health too. We also have too many motor cyclists taking too much risk. We have lots of car accidents. Yreas ago we had some T Shirts with a picture of an endurance rider and it resembled the old knights with all their armor. Practicality should not be thrown out the window. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Karen Sullivan" <greymare56@xxxxxxxxx> To: <rides2far@xxxxxxxx> Cc: <dakota.charm@xxxxxxxxx>; <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, August 25, 2007 10:48 AM Subject: Re: [RC] [RC] Parelli (and other clinicians) On 8/25/07, rides2far@xxxxxxxx <rides2far@xxxxxxxx> wrote: > I like knowing that people are being taught Safer, ways to > be> a partner with a horse, WHAT??!!!!!!! Are you freakin serious? AAAARRRRGGGGGG! Sorry, another thing that hugely yanks my chain, having fought pretty hard in my county to get the 4-H to institure a HELMET RULE for kids, yes I was unpopular with the ignorant cowboy-crowd...but have seen too many (yes, MANY) KIDS, with head injuries from not wearing helmets...anybody who dismisses helmets is negligent.....lawfully NEGLIGENT Karen Karen =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
