Re: [RC] 108! hot, hot ,hot- - Jody Rogers-ButtramOh, come on....you can do it. Go for Talledega. I am not sure where you live, I am in North Alabama, it has been HOT here too. Dry, grass is dying fast, one match and the whole place would go up. I condition at Bankhead National Forest....and I can't go up there anymore. All the creeks, and I mean big ones, are completely dried up. Hard enough to ride in this weather, but you sure can't ride and not have any water for your horse to drink. So, Joni and I are bound to staying at home, riding on the farm fields/trails and going to a trough/pond in a cow pasture for water while riding. We're still riding in the evening, around 5pm....and it is very hot then. Horse hay is up in the barn, and I have plenty of that where it came from. So hay wise, I 'm way better off than most. In fact, we haven't had to sell any cows, right now we have enough hay for them all winter too. That is
around 250 head of mamma cows + bulls. Prices for round bales that we raise and sell is $30-$35 for a 5 x 6 bale. So, sounds like our hay prices are better too. I am just hoping we get a break in the weather and a nice hurricane to bring us some rain.....before Big South Fork.
