In my estimate of these studies, it seems that adverse reactions

DID occur from the IM vaccine.  However, apparently all cases in these
studies were  due to wild type (not vaccine-associated) Strep Equi.

When Wizard had the adverse reaction to the IN Strangles vaccine...I
called EVERYONE I could in hopes of helping him. This was 2003.

I spoke directly to Dr. John Timoney, who is a Gluck Equine Research
Center researcher and who developed the IN Strangles vaccine.  Dr.
John Timoney is also the world's expert on strangles.

Dr. John Timoney is funded by Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation.
Why...because the racing industry loses tons of money each year to
strangles.

Dr. John Timoney told me that he personally has seen and was aware of
MANY adverse reactions caused by the IN strangles vaccine. In fact, I
had it on writing from him, of course when I put Wizard down...I
shredded the huge file I had on the adverse reaction ordeal that we
went through.  Dr. John Timoney informed me that he was currently
working on improving the IN vaccine to hopes of decreasing the
reactions.

Here is some info on a grant Dr. Timoney recieved in 2003.

"Toward a better strangles vaccine   $46,500 (one-year project)

Dr. John Timoney - University of Kentucky
Commercial strangles vaccines have disappointing efficacy against
field exposure to this significant disease. There are also serious
complications that can arise from the vaccines. Dr. Timoney is the
world expert in this field, and has worked diligently (with GJCRF
support) on improving the vaccine. He has now identified 16 proteins
on the organism which participate in immunity. This project will
identify those components which affect specific portions of the immune
response, with the goal of incorporating them in a new generation of
intranasal strangles vaccine."
