[RC] Loose horses/ Parelli - Christy H

No one with any SENSE would allow a loose horse on public trails. Especially not Parelli. I am trying really hard to not be offended by the Parelli slam. It's like knocking my religion, so to speak.

Done correctly, Parelli is a great program. Even idiots can practice Parelli, there's no way to weed them out!!! So don't blame Parelli for stupid people! I've yet to see Pat or Linda ride in the open bridleless (Pat may ride around his own property bridleless, but then he has the skill and athletic ability to do it and does not put others in harms way). If some idiot is riding down a trail bridleless, then he is chosing to do it, aleit unwisely, and not with the direction of Parelli.

Personally, i would bet the guy riding down the trail with two sticks had more control than most riders in a bit on a green/spooky/not-well-trained horse.

Go ahead, flame me, it's worth it to stick up for Parelli. It's made me into a better horseman and that's what counts.

Christy in Colorado
Studying Level 3
Kholo, 5 yo Khemosabi Arab with no holes, can be trusted bareback in a halter, thanks to Parelli
Savanna, 7 yo rescue, who appreciates that her new owner does not force her thanks to Parelli
Kizzy, 17 yo HOT arab, who appreciates us understanding his horse-anality thanks to Parelli and will never be rode down the trail bridleless because he is who he is and that would be stupid, but now has enough confidence to go down the trail without jigging, spooking, and can be safely rode in a rope halter

Speaking as someone who is pretty much ALWAYS ponying a second mount (by
'ponying' I use the standard definition - which includes a strong halter, lead
rope, saddle horn - and solid 'lead' horse)... I can't believe ANYONE would train
on public trails - by having LOOSE horses!!!

Is this a Parelli Idea or something? I know he's into riding horses with no
reins/halters and just two sticks.. I've seen just ONE guy doing this on a
public trail. (granted his horse spooked when we were all passed by a runner with
an off-road stroller thing...Maybe he's using a halter now-a-days?)
