RE: [RC] [RC] Drugs v. bullet - Susan E. Garlinghouse, DVM"Sorry to inform you but there is a percentage that do not go down well, same drugs." B Guess I seem to be beating the odds, then. I've personally euthanized close to 200 horses and well over a thousand small animals of various species, up close and personal with every last one of them, and not one has ever fought or thrashed, and every one has "gone down well". There are often a variety of drugs used in combination with euthanasia solution, and there are sometimes variables in response that dictate dosage, etc, before they're pronounced dead; but not one (on my watch) has ever had anything other than a peaceful and humane ending. Or maybe I'm just incredibly lucky and am a repeated jackpot winner of the Euthanasia Lottery, I dunno. Personally, I take a lot of pride and effort in delivering an absolutely painless and humane death, as much for the owner as for the animal. Maybe a little weird, but that's just me. I don't have a problem with a well aimed bullet, either, though. I've put a number of elk and antelope into my freezer and all received a single high powered bullet through the heart and they all dropped in place and never twitched. I considered theirs an instantaneous death as well, or I wouldn't have put them (or myself) into that position. JMO.
