Re: [RC] sore back - Don HustonHello Barbara,Just guessing here. When I learned about diagonals and started changing them as I rode I made my horse's back sore for months until we both improved so have you started something new? Your horse might need a chiro exam? I don't know how firm a Skito pad is but when I tried the Supracore Endurance Cool Grip pad it was very firm (to let in air to be cooler) and it made my horse's back sore when I rode all day with it. I switched back to my softer Toklat Wool Back pad (much warmer) after 3-50's and 4 weeks of hacking and no more soreness. Did you change something with the pad? Years ago I had an old western saddle that had several nails work loose under the wool skirt creating a hard lump pressing the side of the withers. I found the lump quite by accident (I routinely check for stuff like that now) and luckily there was no damage to the horse but he was much calmer under saddle after I fixed it so it was bothering him. Have you checked under the saddle for a hard spot? The loss of weight might be the result of having a chronic sore back first? I sure do wish my horses would just speak up tell me what's wrong so I wouldn't have to play "20 questions" and then guess at the answers. Good luck, Don Huston At 08:14 AM 8/12/2007 Sunday, you wrote: I've been riding a BM Sports Saddle for nearly two years (same horse) with good results but lately his back is sore (he's lost some weight). Anyone have similar experiences and what did you do to support your horse's back? I'm using a Skito pad with 1/2 inch shim.
