Marta
and anyone who thinks leaving Roger was wrong,
Unless
you have been on this trail you will not understand, but there really is no
room to stop & help!! This was not a time for being emotional and thinking
“I can’t leave him” it was a time to be rational & do
what had to be done to get help out there as quickly as possible.
This
is where Roger fell, or at least very nearby. Look closely at photos 8758 &
8760 and realistically think about what would happen if a couple riders and
their horses decided to stop here and keep him company. They were near the
front of the pack of the riders.
IMO,
you would be risking further injury to the downed rider because your horse
would probably go over, too. There is no room to even stand next to your horse
to get back on if you get off. It may seem uncaring, unsportsmanlike, but the
best thing to do in this situation is to let the downed rider know that you
know he’s fallen and let him know that you’re going for help.
Really, that’s the best you can do.
He
was leading the way for the rider behind him, that rider did not abandon him, she went for help that she nor any number of other
riders would be able to give. Don’t judge them harshly for doing their
best to get Roger the help he needed as quickly as possible. Whatever
Roger’s condition was, time was important.
