RE: [RC] Molasses/sugar over concern - Dream Weaver

Here is some info on sugar content in horse feeds:

This is a chart I put together on how much molasses, fat, protein, and fiber are contained in various horse feeds back when I figured out that the beet pulp I had been feeding Chief turned him into a monster at the start of a ride. The amount of sugar by brand and even by batch can vary a lot - now when I feed him any BP prior to any ride, it gets rinsed clean. Just changing the beet pulp for this one horse made a significant difference. It isn't necessarily the % of molasses that is the problem but the overall amount consumed. I can still turn Chief into a race rocket any time by feeding beet pulp to him in advance of any ride, even one from home will send sparks flying from his wee wittle brain. You would think that all his experience would help, but it only amplifies the problem. None of my other horses have needed to have their feeds monitored as carefully.
