Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] Narrow trails at Tevis - Crysta Turnage - Dyane Smith

I've never ridden Tevis, but the one time I rode a trail like that I had to get off because the trail in front of us looked like it had fallen away so that there was only about six inches width left.  I got off on the uphill side, slipped on the loose sandy soil and fell under my horse.  Fortunately, he stood like a statue while I crawled out between his front legs.  A happy outcome that could not have been achieved in a race situation.  Turned out the trail just had sand that had fallen down on it and covered it, but I was completely disinterested in more of those adventures because, if the trail had fallen away, there would have been no way to turn around on the trail.  That was before cell phones so it would have been a harrowing last few minutes of life.

Long and short of it...I'm on Barbara McCrary's side.

Yes, I think that might be the area, pretty steep drop off, hardly any vegetation. I don?t think a trail machine will fit on those trails. There is not even room to get off your horse there, you?ll either push into the hillside pushing your horse over, or you will go over the side.

I actually think he was about 50 - 100 feet around this corner:
