Growing up in
western Nebraska and living in Wyoming I don't "do" humidity.
;-)
When we moved here in July of 2000 my 12 yr. old
son got out of the car at the new house and said, "ewww, what ~is~ that?" He had
lived in Wyoming for 10 yrs. and had no memory of his first two years
in Houston, TX. Or air conditioned houses for that matter. Now when we
go back home to Nebraska to visit the grandparents and it says 103 degrees on
the bank's Time 'n Temp sign he says it is impossible to be that hot because it
doesn't feel like it to him without the humidity.
I think the heat in a dry environment can hit you
harder because you don't realize you are sweating. It evaporates and dries and
you think you are more cooled off than you really are. Here in soggy
underwear land you are very aware of it and take precautions.
I didn't have horses in Wyoming but me and the mare
would move back there in a heartbeat. She's more suited for the climate there
than she is here. That's what I keep telling my husband anyway.

When I did the ride out there with Bruce he kept asking me if how I
felt about the heat, but I didn't get hot. I could feel it on my neck,
but that was kinda it. Very different than what we've got out here right
now. They did finally get me with the altitude though.
