RE: [RC] Naming Our Farms - Susan E. Garlinghouse, DVMHow many of us "name" our farms/ranches/hobby farms etc? Is there a particular number of acres that's prevalent when naming a farm?> (under x acres you don't, but over x acres you do) Well...we've got 4 horses and 6 acres. My husband named our place "Needmore Acres" It seems to me that "ranch" is a relative term. I have a whole *one* acre---in Wyoming, it counts as a postage stamp, but for So Cal along the foothills, an acre counts as a vast estate.<g> As for coming up with farm names, try choosing one word from column "A", and one word from column "B", and then add Farm, Estate, Acres or Ranch (Rancho, Ranchito, etc) after that combination. Our name for our vast spread changes daily based on how ticked off I am at the ground squirrels getting into my tomatoes. There's usually some ad lib swearing involved, as well. Column A: Broken Lame Dying Dead Rusty Dusty Expensive Rocky Sweaty Sneezing Swearing Column B: Horse Cow Tractor Squirrel Rocks Husband Coyote If your place is anything like mine, pretty much any one of those combinations applies.:-) Susan Garlinghouse, DVM =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
