My horse wears shoes, but I want
to make sure I have an Easyboot for
emergencies. Since he is normally shod, how do I make sure that
the
boot will fit? Can I fit it over his shoe at home and assume that
it
is 'close enough'? I don't think my shoer would want to wait while
I
dink around fitting an easyboot after he pulls the shoe and does
the
trim....
One other thing -- when fitting a boot over shoes -- is there
anything to watch out for when taking it off, so I don't end up
with
a loose shoe?
Hi Beth: Check out these articles on using Easyboots. They
are a few years old, but it's still useful information:
When you are using newer boots (2005 and newer) the trick is to remove
the cable out of the groove, that allows the boot to open up wider both
for putting it on, and for removing it. See option b in
this graphic for an example on how to do that. Measure your
horses hooves with and without shoes and see what the difference is and
where it falls in the size chart. You should probably go with a
boot that will fit over a shoe, that way you can use it that way before
(hopefully) the shoe comes off. If using a boot over shoes,
especially on the fronts be sure to trim the back of the boot down to
lessen the chance of the horse stepping them off.
And for those of you who are experiencing problems with your boots -
please use
this
form, photos are appreciated. We are working to fix any problem
that is occurring and actually many of the problems have already been
fixed on the current boots. I'm really sorry for those of you who
have had problems with cables or buckles breaking.
