[RC] calves and lessons - Lynn WhiteI used to road-race bicycles and developed big calf muscles and they never went away. I also have kind of a genteic propencity for thick calves. We even have kind of a family portrait which consists of everyone's calves...mine are the thickeest. I don't have calves, I have cows! I am 5'3" and weigh 125 pounds, but I have to wear large or extra large half chaps. My calves got so sore I had a hard time walking. About two days after riding more than 40 miles my calves were really sore. They were almost cramp-like. I could not stand to have them even touched. It got so bad I had to take the elevator at work! I've been experimenting with electrolytes, diet, balancing my seat differently, etc. What I did find that worked was using those Futuro ankle braces...the ones that have the really stiff plastic sides. I got one when I tore a muscle in my ankle. I wore it all the time and under my riding shoe to keep me from re-twisting my ankle on uneven ground. I now ride with one on each ankle. I think the extra support helps support my ankles when I post. I still get sore calves, but it's not so crippling. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Take the Internet to Go: Yahoo!Go puts the Internet in your pocket: mail, news, photos & more. http://mobile.yahoo.com/go?refer=1GNXIC =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
