Re: [RC] geldiing an an older stallion-question for Angie and others - rides2farI've heard that a stallion that is gelded later in life still acts stallionish? Is this true? Does it matter if he's bred a mare before or> not? Josie's horse was gelded at 5. He was more stallionish than the others for another year or so but very little evidence any more. He does stare at the old mare across the road a lot but that's all. 7 was gelded at 7 but I doubt he's seen a mare in several years and hadn't been bred so far as I know. (pretty sure) He was *totally* un-mouthy. Has not offered to nip *at all* so that trait isn't there to judge. He does do the stupid "talking too much" thing but it's diminished a lot this week, don't know if it's all because of the gelding or just that he's getting more used to his surroundings. Can you keep us up > to> date on how he behaves in his training? Ha. Like *I* can keep a secret? :-) Sure thing. His major issues right now simply deal with what little handling he's had being inept. He's very friendly but any attempt at control of his head sends him barging in to you. Out come the Parelli DVD's. :-P You know for someone who knows so much about control, I can't BELIEVE they show a woman saddling a horse with the saddle pitched upwards sitting right on top of the horse's shoulder!
