I am here to tell you, if you don't tighten your
chinstrap, the helmet is useless.  A loose chinstrap
cost me a bumpy trip to the hospital on a backboard
with a nasty concussion.  The horse fell and I did a
face plant, pushing my loose helmet up and exposing my
frontal lobes.  On another day, I had a Tipperary
properly adjusted and fell at a high speed hitting the
back of my head and splitting it all the way through. 
I had a mild concussion that would have been a
fracture.  Tipperary gave me a discount on a new
helmet.
