I don't think we have declined as much as the rest of the world has 
gotten a lot better. Take basketball. We invented the sport. For years 
out college all stars could beat any international team. The they got 
beat in one Olympics. Then our NBA all starts know as the Dream Team 
wiped the rest of the world up. Last Olympics our NBA all starts 
finished third. We were told that would never happen again. This year in 
the world championships our NBA all starts finished third.

So I don't think it's not so much we've gotten bad - the rest of the 
world has caught up. Many countries (even governments) put a lot of 
money in their teams - we don't. That sure doesn't help either.
