Great story.  I work at a Trauma I hospital.  9 out of 10 traumas are head injuries.  I figure non helmet wearers are just organ donors….

I had the "image" problem with my husband for some years.  Then he had a fall from a mare doing a flat-footed walk on flat ground, as she tripped over a tree root.  He cracked the back of his head on the same tree root, was unconscious and had a concussion.  (I was re-programming the rest of my life as a widow until he came to...horrible experience.)  I used that as a good example of WHY he should use a helmet.  It was still some time before I convinced him. Then he started using it on State Park Mounted Assistance Patrol, since a white helmet looked very official with the park uniforms.  Now he uses it all the time.  It just took some getting used to. 

I come out from under a helmet looking like a drowned rat, and I couldn't care less.  I feel so  much safer and more confident with the helmet, even while I realize I could still be seriously injured.  No use taking unnecessary chances.  Not smart!!!

Hi-

  The western helmets I have seen make you look like Herman Munster with a tall head.  Definitely not cool !!  Tubes in your neck at the hospital is not cool either.  Who gives a rat how cool you look anyway ?  - Heidi Helly, ( Cool Enough ! )
