[RC] Swollen hock - Kathy Ramspott

This is endurance related because he is an endurance horse that did his last ride at LBL. He is only 5 years old. He got a cut on the outside of his hock one friday night. I had the vet out Sat and he was running a slight fever, the cut was draining and there was some swelling. He was only slightly lame. The cut slowly, slowly healed until it is only a small cut now and there is zero lameness that I can see. He was on antibiotics and I was cleaning and putting ointment on the wound daily. The vet did not think stiches or bandaging was necessary.

That was 3 weeks ago. He is an active boy so the cut healing slowly is not bothering me, what is bothering me is the obvious fluid still on the hock. I have a call into the vet and we are trying to set up a time for him to take a look but I'm wondering if just a visual look is enough. What test, x-rays or what could I suggest just to make sure this is not a chronic condition? What potential problems could this be?

Thanks for any advice.
